Setting up your RHCSA Lab

Introduction

Setting up a lab to study for your RHCSA  or your RHCE is very important step in learning at your own pace and ultimately passing the exam.

Most of us uses windows laptops or workstations  to browse website and emails etc but we can also use our windows box to setup our lab.Its easy you will just have to follow the instructions as we go along.

We will use software like Virtual box to setup our lab. VirtualBox is a powerful virtualization or hybervisor software that would allow you to run Linux operating systems on a top of windows.Not only you can run Linux operating systems but you can also run if you chose so Windows , Mac OS and Solaris operating systems on a top of windows  provided that your hardware can accommodate all of them. VirtualBox also supports Mac OS.

Step 1 Install VirtualBox on your Windows or Mac OS

Windows

First head to VirtualBox  and download the software executable  then double click the installation file and follow the process to install the software.

Mac OS

Perform the following steps to install on a Mac OS X host:

  1. Double-click on the dmg file, to mount the contents.
  2. A window opens, prompting you to double-click on the VirtualBox.pkg installer file displayed in that window.
  3. This will start the installer, which enables you to select where to install Oracle VM VirtualBox.

Once your setup complete launch your Virtual Box application from your start menu or application menu.

We will have to create three Virtual machines with the following configurations.

Click on New   button to Create a new Virtual Machine

Main.local.domain Setup

Select the Settings

Select Network then Click on Adapter 2

Check the Enable Network Adapter option then Change the Adapter Type as shown below

Click OK to save the settings

Your System information should be as follows:

Step 2: Download Linux CentOS 7 ISO files to install the Linux operating system

In this step we will have to setup the Linux Virtual machines to practice on. Our setup will be based on the diagram below.

We will need to setup 3 VMs with the following setup:
